Which Daytona Coupe is this and why do you think so.

This photo was in my file noted as Riverside 1966.

Based on the details I have it narrowed down to one of two CSX#'s. Anyone know for certain?
(We know it's not csx2287.)

I'm not certain that's RIR.   And CS looks older/greyer than in other photos from '66.

Also, note the low profile tires and daisy wheels on the GT350.

Plus the long hair on the fellow on the left. Not a 1966 look. His shoes too.

I'm going to guess late '70s or early '80s.

I'm guessing CSX2602 based on some other photos I've seen of that car. The guy beside Shelby looks like Gordon Gimbel.

Yea, I think your right about the date being wrong. It doesn't look like Riverside to me either.
Daisy wheels started showing up on the 69 Boss 302s in Trans Am racing.

Ontario Speedway  ??  Mid 70's   SAAC 3 or possibly a movie or commercial shoot  ??

I think that is the first one I have seen with Dual Vents on the top of the Drivers Side Fender.

Yes, could possibly be Ontario. 

Anyone else think the low profile tires on the GT350 look more modern than what was available in late '70s?

Thanks. CSX2602 is one of my guesses. It looks very similar to csx2601.
The small hood and cowl scoops look nearly identical to each other, but different than all the other Coupes (in '65).

By '65 they all had dual cowl scoops/vents and at least a hood vent/scoop on the driver's side.
CSX2299 had hood vents/scoops on both sides at Daytona in addition to the dual cowl vent/scoops.

That's Jim Wallace next to Gordon.
Jim was the President of COCOA Orange County 1975.
He had street driving privileges in the Coupe when owned by Shoen and even brought one to the monthly meeting at Pacific Stereo/ Anaheim via the I-5 Fwy!
Carroll used to show up at the meetings just to kick tires and make small talk. Totally approachable.
He was a Chili salesman.

Were you a member of OC COCOA?  Did you know Randy Hermans?  I think he was a member.  He had a '65 GT350.  Very nice guy.  I rode with him to the '81 Monterey Historics. He let me drive a while too. Huge thrill for me.

Yes, I was a member of COCOA OC and yes I knew Randy Hermans. He and Jim 'recruited' me to COCOA OC from a COCOA LA meeting at Galpin Ford 1974~.
Randy had an outstanding 65 350 then which he sold and then got another shortly thereafter. Very nice guy, I seem to recall he was aspiring to dental school ?? at the time.
Man, that was a long time ago. Thanks for bringing that up!

I'm going to say it's CSX2299. Shoen owned it by 12/69. CSX2602 was not owned by him until 1973. From 1967 to 1973 CSX2602 was red and in storage.

Some where some one is driving their collector car for the last time but they don't know it . Drive your car every time like it could be the last memory of it .
