I just wound up with a very nice short, big in & out RUG-S nice shape but missing the tail housing and there seems to be 2 options  a C60R-7A040-C or C7OR-7A040-A which would be correct? thanks in advance for any help Bruce a4278v@yahoo,com

Since you are in 68 I'll assume its a 68 RUG S, is it early or late?  Most will be the C7

I  got this trans with a load of others and have no history on it there is a really faint  unreadable number stamped on the top of the case

The experts here can correct me but the RUG-S was also used in 1967 so the C6 tail could work if you plan to use it as a 67 trans and the C7 could work on a 68. What I cant answer for you is around what Shelby serial number in 1967 did the tailshaft go from C6 to C7 (example did #2700 and above use a C7?).    Which one you use would depend on at year and Shelby serial number.

I believe the C6OR-7A040-D is the correct tail shaft.

Is the RUG S also used in the 68.5 CJ Mustangs along with the Shelby's or just the Shelby's? Thanks.

Yes, it was in some of the big block mustangs also.

not sure about 135s but regular production cjs got RUG AE and very late cars could have AE 1. For the original post like I stated in first reply, tail shaft for 68 RUG S could be either C6 or C7. On main cases 67 cars would have C5 and 68 would have C8.
Another little known factoid, C7 tail shaft can be either small or big output with same casting number. Big out machined differently

#10
just came back from the storage area and  determined that the stamped # on the top ear is 135054 I guess this may be a pretty significant piece to someones puzzle  does this change what # tail housing it gets?

from what I  can tell this is from The Russ Davies Gas Ronda car>>>???

Wow, you've got a 135 tranny!  And I might say, could be a pricey piece!
