69 Shelby Door

I have been told that the Shelby 1969 GT500 Fastback door is supposedly a little different than the standard Mustang (there is a 2"X2" approximate opening for access between the hinges on the door). Is this true? I need a new passenger door and having horrible luck at locating even a Mustang door, let alone a special Shelby door, if this is true.  anyone have a suggestion, or can tell me what is correct?

There is a difference between 69 and 70 door and the stereo speaker and deluxe interior wireing holes can be cut out of a plain door.

69 doors all the same  70 doors have  different stamping  for  mach 1 molding

You may be referring to the hole for the power supply to the door interior light.   Since shelby's came with the "deluxe interior" the door would have had the light which of course needed the power and thus the hole.   Standard interior did not have the light so did not have the hole for the power feed.

A hole can be drilled in a standard door -easy enough-

Thanks Pete for the info.  I am NOT going for concours, but from a judging standpoint, instead of using the correct door with the large stamped out opening, wouldn't a drilled out door bring a point reduction? I only ask for clarification to those that are working to have the near perfect car (and to improve my knowledge of this issue).

First so few people care about concours its a non issue as far as I am concerned.

I believe Ford drilled the hole if the car received the deluxe wiring. If they stamped the hole you sre not going to be tell the difference once the large grommet is installed

And there is a pilot point dimple in the door that was used when ford cut the hole out if needed for the  big rubber wiring gromment that completely hides the hole.

plus the deluxe door had the extra holes for the long door trim panel as the standard used the short one. phred

Those were drilled holes as well
