My car is black with gold lemans stripes (hertz colors) and gold side stripes without gt500 callouts (keeps them wondering....briefly...lol) Car was originally a Wimbledon white car ,but the P.O. (prior to 1982)repainted-it.Unfortunately they did about as good a job as could be expected without blowing the car apart(door jambs, trunk ,engine compartment, etc.)so it would be a pain to "correct".Hated the color at first as it's incorrect, but over the years I've grown to kinda "dig" it.Plus with the incorrect wheels on it I think a lot of people think it's a clone which might repel some "unwanted attention".....

It's possible.Car came to me with a cocoa license plate frame on it,so a previous owner was club involved I think.Car was originally sold at Theodore Robins Ford in Costa Mesa,Ca. to a gentleman named William  in Santa Ana Ca. (who I actually tracked down and spoke to years ago-he didn't remember who he sold it to).I bought it in 1982 from a guy in Hollywood named Gabriel.Fly in the ointment is that I am pretty sure that there were owner(s) between William and Gabriel who I don't know about.Pretty sure Gabriel had it painted.I would love to know what the car looked like before he had it painted.Or maybe not.It might just make me angry... ;D

Not sure if it matters to you or not but I recently received some paper work from Dave Mathews that I requested ,he had my purchase order & about 3 pages of info on previous owners that was kinda cool just to have .

Yeah,I got the stuff from D.Matthews some years back, but it was all original owner warranty repair stuff.Pretty sure car has never been out of Cali. as it has same plates it had back then.

I think Ken Brant was the one that had it painted. I do remember it being from Theodore Robbins. There was one from that dealership that got a 427 transplant "after the sale". The guy who ran their chassis dyno "in the day" told me about it. They sold a fair amount of SAI vehicles and still had two "new" ( one 427 and the other 428) Cobras in '68 for sale.

Did it have painted on side stripes without callouts if you can remember? Because there were at least a couple of other 67 gt500s running around so. Cal. back  in the day that were painted hertz colors. If I remember correctly there were at least 2 others at the 84 SAAC  convention in Anaheim.

I'm not sure , but I do remember Ken's being from Theodore Robbins Ford.

Thanks.I would love to find any other "links in the chain" between the original owner and the guy I bought it from in 82.

The Going Thing

It was beautiful today. Clear blue skiesin the DFW area. 74 degrees with a pleasant breeze.   I finished my log books, pressed my uniforms, balanced my check book and decided I needed to get out for a ride.  I drove the beast about 20 miles, topped off the tank with 93 octane @ 1.66 a gallon, wiped down the car with Meguire's Wash and Wax and covered her back up.
My first trip will be Chicago's  O'hare. Three days will be my longest trip since the lock-down started. I am looking forward to some peace.

My hope for all is that we return to a norm and the recovery is quick for our nation and the world.

Took my beloved 67 GT500 for its weekly romp around the beautiful Pasadena ,Ca. area this morning. One thing became clear almost immediately. This thing sure doesn't behave like a "normal"53 year old. Then again ,I don't behave like a "normal" 56 year old,so we get along just fine...... 8)
