1967 to 1968 production Mustangs with 427 Engine installation.

I have added Paul Patersons (John Petries mechanic) memory report now to the http://www.ponysite.de/stallion.htm site as it was send to me some time ago.
Kevin Martis early research was indeed about 8 possible Stallions in 1967 delivered to Mainway.
I have had meanwhile 2 reports on 1968 GTS Specials from Mainway, cars that are not mentioned in either memories, not from John, nor Paul nor others.

I just put it up as scrap notes from the past 27 years Internet life. It is always interesting when genuine people pop up in the mail and add something to the story. That's why I keep an open mind for all bits and bytes:-)

Although possible it is improbable. I have lost count on how many cars have claimed the "Factory" or "Dealer installed" 427 in a Mustang or Shelby. and have been proven false. 427 engines were hard for other then sponsor racers and race shops to get besides being expensive for back in the day . Also there had to be some creative modifications that had to be done to even get the engine to drop in. There were no headers made for the 427 engine in a Mustang body back in the day (maybe later 68) only custom. The bolt pattern s different on the 427 heads compared to 390.  When the first headers were made they were not designed for a power steering car so there is that. With all those things considered besides the initial cost of the engine I think that there were too many other roadblocks for it to be practical IMO. I think Occam's razor applies here.

Almost as many stories claiming their 69 mustang came with a 351C in it... can't convince those folk's otherwise...

Only seen one unrestored 67 Mustang with an R for the engine code. Other details suggest that it was likely designated, at least from the start, as a car that was supposed to become a Stallion. Followed the car on and off for decades and since the car didn't have an engine in it when I saw it things like the exhaust manifolds could not be investigated. The car did not become a Stallion based on the original body panels and the lack of specific modifications done to the others so this might have been a car where the plan changed mid-stream like a couple of other cars I've owned or seen over the years.

Wrote and included a few pictures about the car in a very limited base newsletter I was providing back, I think, in the early 90's. Overall have seen many 427 claims though the years, some with "paper work" none of them held up to close evaluation. Sure you have seen or seen pictures of the 68 in Europe at one time with the new dash VIN tag with the W.  ::)
