The Shelby American (Winter 2021)

The SHELBY AMERICAN Winter 2021 10 Jeff Burgy ‘ s Ford GT Corner Ford is having a field day with their Heritage Edition Ford GTs. Their lat- est iteration is a take-off of the 1966 Daytona 24 Hour winner P/1015, which was driven by Ken Miles and Lloyd Ruby. They led every lap of the race and finished more than 30 miles ahead of the number two car. The car was white with a black hood and the number 98 with red panels (the other team GT40s had blue/orange panels – P/1011, Bruce McLaren/Chris Amon, 5th) and P/1012 (blue panels, driven by Dan Gurney/Jerry Grant/Tom Payne, 2nd). One presumes other Her- itage Editions can be ordered in McLaren/Amon livery (blue/orange, #96) or Gurney/Grant/Payne livery (blue panels, #97). The cars will have the base engine – 660 hp and will go from zero to 60 in an eyeball-flattening 2.7 seconds. Top speed is 217 mph if you can find some- where to go that fast. Some of the nicest images of the new Ford GT we’ve seen can be found on Ford’s website. It’s obvious to us that they love this car, and their pho- tography demonstrates that. The Ford GT is one of those cars that looks good when photographed from every angle. Kudos to Ford for continuing to build this model, even though we count our- selves among the large crowd of the great unwashed who will never be able to own one. So what? There are plenty of cars we can’t own.
