The Shelby American (Winter 2021)
The SHELBY AMERICAN Winter 2021 11 Restoring Little Shelbys Songwriter Mac Dav is Passes Say Good-bye to the GT350 You Tube has got to be the ultimate time-waster. There are literally thou- sands of videos on just about any sub- ject you can name, posted by frustrated amateur movie directors and it seems the only reason for their being made is just to post them. One of many we found was a ten-minute video depicting the restoration of a toy ‘67 Shelby. It showed the disassembly, cleaning, painting and assembly of what is probably an otherwise worthless discarded toy. Don’t get us wrong: it’s nice to se something like this “saved” rather than just tossed away, but there are so many of these short videos that it is impossible to watch them all. Country and pop singer/songwriter Mac Davis died on September 29, 2020 following heart surgery. He was 78. He was also an actor, appearing in “North Dallas Forty” and “The Sting II.” He was inducted into the Nashville Song Writers Hall of Fame and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His most famous song was “Baby, Don’t Get Hooked on Me” and he wrote “In The Ghetto” which was recorded by Elvis Presley. But he also wrote a song about Carroll Shelby in the 1990s, following Shelby’s heart transplant. He sung it at a celebrity golf tournament organized by Shelby and he also sung it in a tribute follow- ing Shelby’s death. We won’t make that prediction, but we can re- A lot of owners got egg on their face when convertibles came back.
