The Shelby American (Winter 2021)
The SHELBY AMERICAN Winter 2021 13 Calling All Hertz Cars... Well, maybe not all Hertz cars, but cer- tainly one of each color. Steve McDonald is organizing a display of Hertz GT350s for next year’s Muscle Car and Corvette Na- tionals show (MCACN) in Chicago on No- vember 20-21, 2021. For those of you who may have been marooned on a desert is- land for the past few years, the MCACN has become one of the premiere car shows in the country. It should definitely be on your bucket list. The show has an electric- ity that literally crackles with muscle cars and racers – drag cars as well as road rac- ers. It is known for attracting the cars you rarely get to see, like Hemi Dodges and Plymouths, L88 Corvettes, COPO Ca- maros and Chevelles, Pontiac Trans-Ams, Oldsmobile 442s and W-31 Cutlasses, Fair- lane Thunderbolts, or Shelbys, Cobras and GT40s. This show regularly attracts the best of the best and the rarest of the rare – the one of one, one of two or one of three. The show also attracts a large number of spectators. Being that it takes place in late November, there are no other shows that conflict with this date. McDonald pitched the idea for a Hertz display to show promoter Bob Ashton for 2021 and Ashton was enthusiastic about it. Now that the door is open, all McDonald needs are cars. He’s looking for one of each color – black and gold, red and gold, blue and gold, green and gold and white and gold plus a bona fide ‘68 and a ‘69 example. And a ‘66 4-speed car. The entry fee for this show is $150 per car (just so you know in advance) and this entitles you to a priority move-in slot, secure 24-hour truck and trailer parking, passes for move-in days (Thursday and Friday) and 2 exhibitor passes (Saturday and Sunday). McDonald is also putting together a col- lection of Hertz memorabilia which will be displayed in a glass display case (under lock and key) at the show. If you have something you think very few people have ever seen you might want to think of shar- ing it. Contact Steve about loaning some- thing to him. It goes without saying that anything you send will be treated gently and returned promptly after the show. This show is regularly covered by auto- motive magazines and websites and gets air time on Chicago television stations. We plan on covering it in The Shelby Ameri- can magazine. If you have a GT350H and this sounds like a show that might interest you, send Steve an email. steve.w.mcdonald@juno.com
