The SHELBY AMERICAN Winter 2021 14 Allen Grant ’ s 2017 Shelby GT350-R Can Be Yours Shelby American Cobra team driver Allen Grant has donated his 2017 Shelby GT350-R to the Palm Springs Cruisin As- sociation and it will be raffled off on Feb- ruary 20, 2021. All proceeds from this drawing will support the Desert Cancer Foundation. The Desert Cancer Founda- tion was founded more than two decades ago to pay for treatment of cancer patients who lack health insurance or sufficient funds to pay for their medical care. Grant’s bright yellow Shelby is painted to mimic his original Cobra, CSX2128. This car was originally a factory team car, one of the first rack-and-pinion Cobras, and was driven by Dan Gurney, Lew Spencer, Dave MacDonald and Bob Holbert in 1963 until it was sold to Coventry Motors, a Cobra dealer in Walnut Creek, California. The car was painted yellow and cam- paigned by Allen Grant who worked at Shelby American as the Production Man- ager. His plan was to race against the fac- tory to convince Carroll Shelby he should be on the Cobra factory team. He finished 1st at Santa Barbara, Candlestick Park and Laguna Seca, and 2nd at Riverside. Beating the factory team got Shelby’s at- tention and he was soon invited to join the factory team driving a Daytona Coupe. The car is properly tricked-out. It has the following features: •5.2L Ti-VCT V8 with 526 hp and 429 lb.- ft of torque •Advanced suspension including the Mag- neRide™ damping system •Brembo™ brakes - the most powerful brakes in a production Mustang •19” Carbon Fiber Wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires •R-Electronics Package •Voice-Activated Touchscreen Navigation System •Painted Black Roof •Extra set of aluminum racing wheels In addition to the car the winner will get to participate in a track day with Grant and some memorabilia from Allen Grant’s personal collection.
