The Shelby American (Winter 2021)

The SHELBY AMERICAN Winter 2021 25 You wonder what an eagle eye is? We’ll let Bill Fulk demonstrate. He was browsing a website called The Chive Newsletter which is a conglomeration of funny pictures, jokes and cheese- cake. Once in a while someone will put one into an email and send it to every- one they know. This is where they get them. Anyway, he spotted the Cobra in this picture which most of us would probably have missed. Barrell-Jackson chose a new Ford GT for the cover of their latest magazine. An exciting car, for sure. They also had one of the cover of their last issue. Looks like they’re on a roll! Steve Sloan checks in with the latest cobra-related movie. How he keeps finding these movies is beyond us. This one was made in 1972 and rated “R” (viewing was a difficult job for Sloan but somebody has to do it). The movie’s plot revolves around a woman – an actress appropriately named Joy Bang – bitten by a “fire cobra” which stops her from aging. To survive and stay young she must have a regular supply of venom from this cobra along with having sex with young men. That transfers their youth to her and leaves them old and de- formed shells of their former selves. This may explain Howard Pardee’s current appearance. We’re not really sure – we’re just sayin’. Tor Gooding from Skjelberg, Norway got a little ink for his daughter Tina’s ‘70 GT500 (#1014) in the Norwegian magazine AMCAR. We noted in last year’s Spring issue that the car’s pre- vious owner was living in Thailand and bought a cobra which he was going to use to kill a feuding neighbor. The snake bit him instead, killing him. Sounds like a case of Cobra karma to us. Warning: don’t try that at home. Steve Nowak was watching a rerun of Tim Allen’s sitcom “Home Improve- ment” and he spotted a picture of a 427 Cobra on the bulletin board. Gary Fisk found this ad for a door closer, advertised as a “Shelby door- man.” This would be just the thing to have attached to the door of your Shelby room. It’s from the late 1940s.
