The Shelby American (Winter 2021)
The SHELBY AMERICAN Winter 2021 26 The MecumMagazine had an interest- ing cover. It was a photograph taken during a photo shoot on Carroll Shelby and Dan Gurney sometime in 1965, after they announced the opening of All American Racers – a partnership between the two. Gurney later bought out Shelby. More care could have been taken in choosing the sport jackets – they look like something Laurel and Hardy would have worn. Autabuy advertised a ‘65 GT350 on the cover of a recent issue. It’s a pretty effective way of advertising. A new bar opened up in East Tosa, Wisconsin (that’s east Wauwatosa to you non-cheeseheads). Colin Comer re- ports that it really doesn’t have any- thing to do with Cobras (until someone with a Cobra parks out in front and snaps a picture...). Steve Sloan saw a neat commercial on TV for Amica insurance. It shows a kid assembling a 427 Cobra model under his mother’s watchful eye. It then fol- lows his growing up, getting a car and getting insurance for it. Spoiler alert: the kid does not get a 427 Cobra. Vincent Liska saw this tear-jerker: the Dearborn Fire Department used a 2020 Shelby Mustang GT500 supplied by Ford – which was “saved” from going to the crusher – by becoming a testing mule for an extraction training exercise. What a waste of 760 horse- power. Looks like a Shelby to us. This cartoon car appeared on the cover of this book. Cory Hitchcock’s son, Aaron, found a ‘66 GT350 and a 427 Cobra on a music video by punk band Atreyu titled “Falling Down.” You can watch it at: https://youtu.be/Nj256Pbo88A
