The Shelby American (Winter 2021)
The SHELBY AMERICAN Winter 2021 3 The Spirit of Ed Roth continues, as seen at Carlisle 2020. SAAC member Ted Alexander is graphic designer and illus- trator with a soft spot for Panteras. Occasionally he sends us something that’s too good not to use. This is a ‘72/’73 Pantera GT4 that was raced at LeMans in 1973. Some of the neatest pictures can be found on the Internet but there is no identifing information with them. Take this smoking ‘67 Shelby, for instance. Obviously from the license plate it’s somewhere in Europe. But like the stolen toilet from Howard Parde’s bathroom, we have nothing to go on. Spotted on the UCONN campus by David Maffucci: some- one obviously didn’t want SAAC-20 to be cancelled. We’ve seen this picture of Dan Gurney in CSX2323 at Targa Florio in 1964, with spectators on the hillside behind him but on close inspection some of those spectators look mighty familiar. Wait a minute – one of them is wearing a Kress t-shirt and another is wearing a Holman-Moody shirt. Is that possible? We have it on good authority that this t-shirt is available from Kress Industries. You’ll have to buy one to see for yourself. kresscobra@gmail.com
